Darian Mar Bio
Darian Mar was born in Edmonton on August 17, 2003 to Buck and Tamara. He joined older brother and sister, Taylor and Jordan, to round out the family of five.
Darian was a happy-go-lucky, curious and sensitive child who was quick to make friends. He loved to hang out with his siblings but was also very capable of keeping himself occupied.
The family moved to St. Albert in 2006. At the age of four, Darian joined the St. Albert Rams mini-tyke program. His dad coached him for many years and instilled a love of the game. In later years, Taylor joined the coaching team. The three of them spent countless hours passing the ball to each other in the school yard behind their house. One of Darian’s favourite pastimes was scouring the internet for new and better ways of doing things. After Buck taught him how to string a stick, with the help of YouTube, he was on a mission to create the perfect pocket.
Darian last played lacrosse on the North Edmonton Wizards Bantam “A” team, a team comprised of players from St. Albert, North Edmonton and Fort Saskatchewan. A little intimidated and tentative at first, in his short time with the team he found many new friendships and a true passion for the game.
Outside of lacrosse, Darian loved the outdoors and spending time with family and friends. He was also active in the club soccer and volleyball communities as a goalkeeper and setter.
On June 8, 2017, two months shy of his 14th birthday, Darian was struck and killed by a van while riding his bicycle home from school. Known for his beaming smile, he leaves behind a legacy of sportsmanship, resourcefulness, and dedication.
